Earlier today, I got a phone call from a friend but I was in the middle of something so I couldn't answer it. I'm going to try to call him back later tonight.

- I got a phone call
- but I was in the middle of something
- so I couldn't answer it 그래서 (그 전화를) 못받았어
- I'm going to try to call him back later tonight

I took my dogs out to the park today. We were there for about an hour. On our way back, I remembered that we were almost out of dog food. So we stopped by the store to pick up some dog food and some snacks.

* take 누구 to 어디

* go to the park / the hospital / the police station / the airport / the barber shop

- for about an hour 한 시간 정도

- on our way back 돌아오는 길에

* be out of 무엇 : 무엇을 다 써서 다 떨어진

- stop by the store 가게에 들르다

I hung out with a friend yesterday. We hadn't seen each other in a while. We didn't do much. We just went out for some drinks and talked for a couple of hours.

- hang out 만나서 놀다

- hadn't seen each other in a while

- we didn't do much 별거 안했어 / 별로 한 거 없어

- go out for some drinks/a drink 한잔하러 가다

"We hadn't seen each other in a while."에서 in a while - "동안"이라는 전치사를 for가 아니라 in을 쓰는 이유는 앞 문맥이 부정형이기 때문. 부정문의 문맥에서는 'for a while'보다 'in a while'가 더 잘 어울리는 경우가 대부분이다.(예외는 있음)

<오랜만이야.>라는 인사는 "Long time no see" "I haven't seen you in a while." "It's been a while."

I went to Starbucks yesterday, quite late at night, around 9 o'clock and there were so many people! I barely found a seat for myself. It was quite surprising. I really didn't expect it to be so crowded on a Sunday night.

- quite late at night

- barely 겨우  * There was so much food. We barely finished it.

* didn't expect A to V - A가 동사할 줄 몰랐다

So, I just decided[디싸이릳] to stay home.

Do you have any plans for the holidays?

- the end of the year

I'm planning to + do something ~
 * go on a short trip
 * take a short trip

I'm planning to go on a short trip with my family.
But that means I have to take (extra) time off work.
 * take (some) time off work 휴가를 내다
So, it's not going to be easy.

I am better than him

She is stronger than me

It looks ~~~~~~~~~~ good

It is ~~~~~~~~~~~ good

look vs be

It is not as delicious as it looks

You are taller than you look

This looks ~~~~~~~~ cool

This looked ~~~~~~~ cool

That looks even cooler than it did in the picture

MUCH / SO MUCH / A LOT / WAY

You are a lot heavier than you look

You are not as dumb as you look

You are even dumber than you look

It is ~~~~~~~~~~~ cold

I thought it was gonna be ~~~ cold

I thought it would be ~~~~ cold

It is a lot colder than I thought it was gonna be

It is a lot colder than I thought it would be

That was easier than I thought it was gonna be

You are ~~~ funny

You think you are ~~~ funny

You are not as funny as you think you are

I am ~~~ smart

They think I am ~~~ smart

I am just not as smart as they think I am

What they say in movies -

have trouble Ving ~ - V

If your English was half as good as you think it is,

you wouldn't be having as much trouble understanding

what they say in movies

This is gonna be a long story

This is gonna be an a lot longer story than I thought it would be

I gotta tell you

You are even cuter than I thought you would be

This day is really gonna be so much better

than I thought it was gonna be

Laugh hard

You would have laughed ~~~~~ hard (과거가정)

I laughed ~~~~~~~~~~~ hard (실제과거사실)

JUST as ~~~~~ as

If you had been there,

you would have laughed just as hard as I did

She is just as pretty

If you held still. It wouldn't hurt as much

If you hadn't run away, none of this would have happened

If you hadn't frightened me, I wouldn't have run away

I was not nice to her

I should have been nice to her

I was ~~~~~~~~~~ nice to her

I should have been ~~~~ nice to her

I was not as nice as I should have been

You must have done better than you thought (you did)

I must have hit my head harder than I thought

I am like 500 times better than I was back then

I don't think their English is even one-tenth as good as they think it is

I guess I am using a lot more comparatives than I normally would be
